One challenging aspect of working in a non-profit

One of the challenges I have faced in non-profit recruitment is communicating the sense of meaning or the impact of the work people do.
If you are working in a fast growing non-profit, there is a high chance that your job role is going to be more specialized over time and that can make you feel that you are losing the thread of the whole story somewhere. So, the very purpose people come to volunteer in organizations, that is seeking meaning, might get defeated.
It’s important to be upfront about this fact to the potential volunteers.
We think we can ask people directly as to what motivate them. But, that is effective only when people know exactly what they want. Unfortunately, that’s the central puzzle of our lives and hardly few of us know the answer to that question.
